We announced that the year 2007 was going to be decisive in order to complete the company restructuring process and give therefore more reliable and quality service to our passenger-clients. The demonstration is the new plant that we inaugurate this morning in Viterbo: the new company structure offers passengers and employees real and noteworthy advantages, overcoming problems caused up until yesterday by a strongly penalized position”. This is the assumption with which President Franco Cervi announces to the press this new and significant company strategic action. At the inauguration, the Managing Director, Antonio Ricevuto, the President of the Viterbo Province, Alessandro Mazzoli, the Public Works Town Councilor, Antonio Fracassini, the Director of the Pisana Transport Sector, Alessandro D'Armini, were present among others. The new structure, which is positioned on the Cassia Nord, in proximity of the traffic control authority, head of the other ten provincial structures, was bought by Cotral in 2006 in order to respond to the necessary criteria of safety and efficiency required by the current legislation and by the technical requirements of a company that for capacity and dimensions represents one of the most important realities in the out-of-town public transport sector in Italy. It covers a surface of about 10,000 sq m. (approx. 12,000 sq yr.) opportunely distributed among employee offices, workshop, spare parts warehouses, carwash, water recycler, petrol station and 50 bus parking stalls. Cotral transfers its entire province organization to this complex, which becomes today an important reference point for all other plants in Viterbo. New developments. Hard times have passed for both drivers and passengers and a safe transit is finally possible. One of the main problems with the former site was its close collocation to a high-density population area. Today, thanks to the new plant transfer, the impact of acoustic and environmental pollution caused by buses on inhabitants has been completely resolved and the hard citizen protests with the Municipality of Viterbo are now only a distant memory. The old structure, no longer adequate for an optimal work execution, has been replaced and the employee workspaces, once small and insufficient due to the inevitable space sharing with the Metro employees, are now wide and easily accessible. The drivers’ maneuvers are now facilitated by the absence of intense traffic that did not facilitate an easy transit, not even to the most experienced drivers. All fundamental production and maintenance processes are now carried out in the new headquarters. The crowning achievement of Viterbo is its end of the line terminal. From this new end of the line terminal, very wide and well organized, depart 40 daily connections with Rome/Saxa Rubra through the roads of Cassia, Cassia Cimino, Flaminia and Braccianese and all other routes which connect the other 59 municipalities of the Viterbo area, of crucial importance especially during the working and scholastic periods for a total of 138 daily connections. Thanks to its present position, the elimination of the out-of-service routes will be achieved at the end of the process, from and to the Roma Nord station together with the reduction of one third of those heading to the latter location. The advantage of this new set-up is considerable as it allows to limit traffic to a minimum (and therefore the run time) and concomitantly improve the quality of life of the Viterbo citizens. Presently, the daily urban out-of-service runs, from a previous count of 300 (from the Roma Nord station to the Riello end of line terminal) decrease to an approximate count of 110 (from the Riello end of line terminal to the new plant). The new buses. Shortly, our clients and drivers will be able to make use of new vehicles recently bought by the company whose distribution is already taking place. More precisely for the Viterbo province, it will be 52 new buses: 4 double-decker buses that will be employed on the Roma – Viterbo line; 15 12-metre buses; 23 10-metre buses; 10 buses with GPL engines with low environmental impact. The older buses will be put aside concomitantly with the new introductions. These substitutions will make the average age of the vehicle fleet drop to 7 years respect to the previous average of 11 years. Booking service for the disabled. The new GPL buses will be used to experiment the on-call booking service with predefined times and stops for the disabled on the Viterbo – Roma line with the special set-up of timetables and stops. On-call traffic light. Astral (Agenzia regionale delle strade del Lazio) (Regional company for the roads of Lazio) has collaborated with Cotral for the implementation of an on-call traffic light for the new plant, whose sensors are triggered by the presence of a vehicle. Placed in the outbound direction of the crossway with the SS Cassia at Km 88+400, it will help Cotral drivers maneuver and will favor the pedestrian transit. The restructuring of other Viterbo plants. The restructuring activity made possible by the transfer in a more appropriate site with consideration to citizens’ and employees’ needs together with the taking distance away from the city centers has been accomplished and will soon also take place on three other plants in the Viterbo area. From August 2005 up until now, the Viterbo province promoted an acceleration of the works for the realization of a Cotral structure in Ronciglione. The precarious pre-existing situation caused by public ground occupancy has been abandoned and the final transfer to the industrial area has been completed. In order to resolve the very same problem in Bagnoregio, a plant construction is underway (and close to completion) in an equally suitable area. For the Blera structure, meetings are on-going with the local administration in order to obtain an area assignment adjacent to the present plant, for the realization (which is already planned) of a structure suitable to needs. |
